Tom Jones joins us!
We've appointed Thomas Jones as our Head Chef and we'd like to officially welcome him to the team.
The 33-year-old previously worked as Head Chef for Cricket St Thomas Warner Hotels and has been employed as Chef de Partie at The Grange in Sherborne, Dorset.
Tom said: "I started off working as a trainee in a family hotel called Bellplot House, an AA five-star guest house with one AA rosette for its restaurant, in Chard and worked my way up to become their Head Chef.
"It was hard work and involved a lot of late nights, long hours and commitment, but I love what I do and you can't beat the way a good kitchen works, and the feeling of creating dishes that people enthuse about. It's amazing when you hear all the positive feedback and that drives you on."
Our food is a vital part of what we do here and it's wonderful we've found someone like Tom who is so passionate about what he does, and can take our kitchen team forward.
Tom added: "I wholeheartedly agree with the team's commitment to using, wherever possible, seasonal and local produce from the very best local suppliers. I am looking forward to doing more of this and introducing lots of interesting specials.
"We're not short of wonderful suppliers here in Somerset. Candida keeps her own bees for honey, we get our eggs from the farm next door and for anyone who stays with us overnight, they can breakfast on our homemade vegetarian sausages.
"Our bread comes from a small local Bridgwater bakery. It uses traditional old brick baking ovens, which really does make a difference, and provides us with top quality bread products for our diners to consume.
"Our dishes are fresh, cooked on-site and made to order, you can even see into the kitchen and watch us create your meal."
Tom, who lives in Chard and was educated at Huish Episcopi School, believes all the best chefs start at the bottom and work their way up.
Tom continued "After I left the family hotel I went to the capital and took up a position as a Chef de Partie in Chapter One, a well-known, award-winning restaurant near London in Kent.
"Chapter One is what fine dining is all about and that role taught me a lot. It offers exceptional food in a stylish setting with impeccable service, paying meticulous attention to detail and it also provides great value for money.
"It was here that I learnt a great deal about modern-European cooking. It makes the most of fresh, seasonal ingredients, but also doesn't forgo traditional culinary excellence. It's these touches that I am bringing to The Bower Inn."
In his spare time, Tom, who is married to Katie, a teacher, and has one very young son, Oscar, likes to relax away from the kitchen playing rugby or pool and tinkering or riding motorbikes.
