Tips for creating the perfect wedding or party table

We are offering you our top tips on how to dress a table for a special celebration this year (2017) as creating the right atmosphere is key for the success of any event.

You can set the scene with beautiful lighting. Just simple white fairy lights can look great when they are hung up around the walls or windows. You could consider switching off any overhead lights, unless they are elegant chandeliers that fit your theme, and using free standing lamps instead, but make sure there will be enough light for people to see what they are eating.

Selecting a floral centrepiece is a tricky job too. It really needs to be a showstopper but it shouldn't take up too much space or obstruct talk across the table, so try using vases with short stems.

For an organic look, depending on the time of year, use a combination of branches and other more rustic foliage with cottage garden style flowers. These could be sourced from your own garden or by a local florist. We're finding that the current fashion with summer flower arrangements is to use scented English roses. Alternatively, for something more modern you could fill a clear vase with pebbles or glass balls and other decorative items.

Don't forget to consider the table cloths, napkins, cutlery and crockery you wish to use. Are you colour coordinating? Or mixing and matching with a vintage theme in mind?

Finally, have some suitable backgound music, something people can talk over and isn't too obtrusive but also gives tone to the event. It just needs to be audible, on in the background, to further enhance the atmosphere.

We have provided the venue for many weddings and parties in the past seven years and have a private marquee seating 78 people, or 140 for a buffet, within our own private walled garden.
